Currently, abdominal organs the liver, pancreas, small bowel and kidney can be successfully preserved for up to two days.However thoracic organs heart and lungs have a much shorter life span.

We as surgical technologists and assistants are specialized and trained to assist in the operating room in either a circulating or scrub or surgical assistant role.
